The Back Porch (#11)

Wow. So the whole point of these exercises is (I think) to consecutively describe something, and also prove that I can stick with it. 'Cus sticking with it is pretty essential for writing a book . . . which I'm kind of trying to do. XD Oh well. Better late then never!

I am trapped in a cold square. In front of me is a thin, clear, hard material that allows me to see what is outside. Half of the clear material has some sort of criss-crossing screen in front of it, while the other side is completely clear. This too is square-shaped (rectangular, rather), all straight lines. Just on the other side there is a large square stone projecting outwards. It has a rough texture, with both light and dark patches. It is a rather neutral, nondescript color, ranging in value from light beige to a deep purplish-green.

All along the edge of the square stone are thick black lines of metal, the thickest parts pushing up from the stone, and connected by other metal rods. The thin rods in between the connecting rods are spaced at regular intervals, each creating a thin, tall rectangle in the space between it and the next one.
Within the black barrier, sitting on the square stone, there is a little yellow, circular object. It has been pressed down in the middle so that the edges come up and slope smoothly outwards. Sitting inside of it is a similarly-shaped black object, but with taller sides. Both are essentially circular at the top.
I have come to conclude that humans are obsessed with geometry.
My eyes turn to the non-human things. Within the black circular object is an organism. Two organisms. They are cold, and the smaller one is particularly unhappy. They are reaching out toward the other organisms outside of the human-made barrier around the stone square. There is a riot of organisms beyond it, all shades of green and yellow, with some red thrown in.
The light of this planet's sun is touching these organisms, and I can feel them drawing energy from it. If only I could do the same.
