Jeans + Peasant Skirt = Cute Combo!

So I've decided I need to be posting things here more regularly. :) How better to start off with a refashioning tutorial! :D

Let's start with these:

stretch jeans with holes in the knees
Skirt I never wear anymore

What to do? Start chopping!

Measuring the lazy way :)
I cut them off right above the knee holes

Once the legs are off, I started to unpick the seams. This took a long .... long time. In hindsight, I could have just cut right through them, because I didn't end up saving the original seams. Oops. :D

Pick . . . pick . . . piiick . . .
Now for that skirt! I figured out about how much ruffle I wanted past the jeans, and detached those bottom two ruffles.

Right here. That's where I took it apart.

More picking! But this time, it was necessary.

So much ruffle! Saving the rest for a later date.

The picked-open jeans!

Now here is where I forgot to take any more pictures, because I was so engrossed in the pinning/sewing process, and my memory is NO GOOD. But it's pretty self-explanatory.

I put the jeans on inside-out and pinned the legs together to make a skirt.
I then sewed a line around the top edge of the skirt and then gathered. I figured out where I wanted the camo part of the skirt to begin, and pinned it all the way around, and then sewed it on!
(Sorry this part is so boring and pictureless!)

I left the jean skirt its original length under the camo part to act as its own slip.
'Cus otherwise, that little see-through bit could be awkward

We decided it needed some extra embellishment, so I cut out little stars from the original skirt's lining and hand-sewed them on.

They have character!

The finished product!

Woohoo! :D

This skirt is being sold at HopeCycle Refashion's store, where all profit from sales are donated to fight Sex Trafficking in America.

See you next time!
